Bedford firefighters were dispatched in the early morning hours to a reported brush/vehicle or power line down with fire. Upon arrival on Walker Drive,  a fully involved vehicle was visible on the Consumers Power right of way under the power lines. Due to the distance from the roadways, Engine 532 deployed 2 preconnects and tied them together to attempt to reach the fire. However, the line still came up short. Another 100' of 1 3/4" line were added to the stretched line to reach the vehicle on fire. Brush units 571 and 572 attempted to reach the fire off of Collier road and were able to get fairly close before becoming mired down in the rain soaked ground on the hill. 572 stretched a booster line and provided another mode of attack to the fire. Eventually the distance problems were overcome and the fire extinguished. As units began to return to the road, they became mired in the muck and 571 had to be extricated via tow. Hopefully, the next fire up on the hill will occur in drier weather.
